TRUE Poster

Before I started working at charity: water, they asked if I wanted to be part of a handful of designers that would help bring some additional awareness their September Campaign by making some posters. I hadn't made a poster in what felt like years so I jumped on the opportunity to get back into it. I went through a ton of horrible/half-assed ideas such as; Elephants, Jerry Cans in place of stars on old war posters (Come & Take it), hundreds of sayings, and so on until I finally landed on the word TRUE. One of the main selling points of charity: water is the fact that 100% of the public's donations go directly to the field and is tracked so that no matter how much you donate you can see exactly how/where you helped. Internally they call it transparency, but transparency was too long of a work to illustrate every letter. Anyway the word TRUE felt right to me because it can mean so many different things to so many different people. I wanted to make a poster that could serve as a reminder to just stay true to what's most important to you; whether that's helping others, being straight edge, working hard to be the best you can be or whatever it is that you want. At the end of the day just make sure that you feel happy with yourself and with what you're doing for this world.

Like I said I went through what seemed like hundreds of iterations of this project and could not nail down anything that felt "right". By the time I was finally on to something I had to cut it down to bare minimum printing techniques. Which is why this ended up being a one-color jam. I still tried to make it as interesting as possible using different textures, patterns, color fields, and whatnot to break it up as much as possible. I also got a stamp made and some metallic gold ink to add a little something extra to the deal aka I designed it for a different concept and then ended up bailing on that direction but still needed to use the stamp. ~*~HaPpY AcCiDeNtS~*~ (P.S. If you ever need a rubber stamp, hit up the forever amazing Rubberstamps.net. I've been using them for years and have never been disappointed with their impeccable customer service.) Time was running out and I had no place to print this bad boy so I called my buddy Shawn Hileman at Masthead Print Studio (which is hosting some AMAZING events in the coming months: ie: National Retrospecticus and a lecture by House Industries...no big deal) and after some squeegee problems he helped me turn these bad boys around in no time. So thanks dude!

If you're interested in buying one of these bad boys head over to the charity: water store and scoop it up. 100% of the profit goes to helping bring clean water programs to a village named Orissa in India. You can watch this video to get the full and unbelievable story.
